Don Smith was a regular intercounty team member representing EGTC for the last few years. We are shocked and saddened to have lost such a good friend, great competitor and skilled tennis player. Here is Don with his son, Reid, getting ready to put it all out there as he always did. Don had an impressive record of 21 matches won to 13 losses playing mostly in the top tiered Mens 1 doubles for the EGTC intercounty team. He was the type of player that elevated his partner's game.
Don will be greatly missed.
"Don was a joy to watch play tennis ... he had a way with a tennis racquet that made the game look so easy."
"This is so, so sad. Such a nice guy and a terrific tennis player. Way too young."
"We were so fortunate to have him on our team, to watch him in action. He was so skilled and smart in his game... he was the older and the wiser, and will be truly missed. Lots of fun times and trying to kick his butt in practice."
"Don was a vivid man and one you didn't forget once you met him. It won't be the same without him."
"Don was definitely a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court; and ... was very involved (coaching, racquet stringing, etc) with many of the former Newmarket and area clubs."
